Cafcass statement on Children Bill
4 March 2004
“We welcome the Children Bill, which will
create the framework for strengthening child protection services
for the most vulnerable children and improving universal services
for all children. We hope the Government will provide
sufficient funding for this ambitious programme of reform.
“We are pleased to see the creation of a
Children’s Commissioner, who will act as an independent champion
for children and young people and actively engage them in promoting
awareness of their views and interests.
“Cafcass will do everything we can to ensure
there is a smooth transfer of Cafcass Cymru to the Welsh
Assembly Government. There has been huge progress in service
delivery in Wales in recent months, which is a credit to the
workforce in Wales. It is important that transfer arrangements do
not jeopardise that progress.”
