Cafcass Chief Executive on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour
Anthony Douglas, CBE, Cafcass’ Chief Executive discussed
the growing number of care applications on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s
hour.
Speaking on the show he commented: “The last year has seen an
exceptional increase in applications for care orders by local
authorities. That is the right reaction in the aftermath of the
Baby Peter case as many agencies reviewed the cases of children
experiencing chronic neglect. Cases are also more complex and there
has been a rise in referrals from agencies such as the Police. This
is good news for children at risk of abuse but it does mean we have
had to change the way Cafcass and the wider family justice system
works so that children do not experience lengthy delays.”
