Cafcass staff shortlisted for Social Worker of the Year Awards 2017

Cafcass has been shortlisted in three categories in the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2017

Linda Nelmes has been shortlisted in the category of Creative and Innovative Social Work Practice, while Sarah Parsons has been shortlisted for Raising the Profile of Social Work.

Shelagh Butler, who recently retired from Cafcass, has been shortlisted for the Lifetime Achievement Award. The nomination recognises the contribution she made to the lives of vulnerable children as a family court adviser and senior service manager at Cafcass.

Linda, Service Manager in the National Commissioning Team, is shortlisted for her work developing the Domestic Violence Practice Pathway. The project has been incredibly successful and was recognised with a Ministry of Justice Award for Innovation earlier this year.

Sarah Parsons, Principal Social Worker at Cafcass, has been shortlisted in the category of Raising the Profile of Social Work. Her nomination showed the contribution she has made in her role to improve the public perception of social work through media appearances and speaking at Westminster events.

Sarah has also contributed to innovative projects such as the Practice Supervisor Development Programme and the design of apps for use in practice. She also features regularly on Cafcass’ social media channels to publicise the high quality of our work.

The Social Worker of the Year Awards aim to give recognition to the challenging work of qualified social workers and improve understanding of the range of work which social workers undertake.

Congratulating the shortlisted nominees, Cafcass Chief Executive Anthony Douglas said: “There were many entries for this year’s awards which makes our achievement in being shortlisted for three awards that much more impressive.

“Linda, Sarah and Shelagh have in different ways made a massive contribution to practice development and improvement. This external recognition is important for them and for us, as much of what we are developing in our practice has sector-wide significance.”

The winners of the Social Worker of the Year Awards will be announced in a ceremony at the Royal Lancaster London hotel on 24th November.
