Cafcass marks Transgender Day of Remembrance 2021

Published:

Cafcass is marking Transgender Day of Remembrance with a clear commitment to the transgender and non-binary children, young people and families with whom we work, and with our colleagues.

Developed with members of Cafcass’ diversity Pride Network, the following statement is part of our wider commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) and informs the work being done to develop our new ED&I strategy, following the publication of our new objectives for ED&I in Cafcass.

Our commitment to transgender (trans) and non-binary inclusion

Cafcass is committed to providing an inclusive working environment in which all transgender, non-binary and intersex people feel valued, included and respected. We are determined to create a workplace where everyone has a sense of belonging, feels able to be their authentic selves and has a voice in their teams and the wider organisation.

We are committed to the fair treatment of all trans, non-binary and intersex people within the context of our broader commitment to celebrating the diversity of our workforce, promoting wellbeing and resilience and providing opportunities for staff to reach their full potential. To achieve this, we will take a holistic approach in line with our relationship based Together framework.

The development of our Equality Impact Analysis framework will introduce a requirement for policy owners to consider all protected characteristics and other areas of equality and inclusion, as appropriate, when they develop new policies or review existing policies. We will continue to draw on the knowledge, skills and experience of ‘Pride’ - our LGBT+ Network - to ensure that Cafcass is inclusive and responsive to our trans and non-binary staff as well as to the trans children and families we support.
