  • What will I do?

    What are apprenticeships at Cafcass?

Apprenticeships are a form of work-based training that allow you to gain a qualification and learn practical on the job skills while earning a wage. They are a great first step in learning more about your chosen career path and learning practical skills that will stay with you throughout your career. Cafcass apprentices will work alongside our experienced staff to learn job-specific skills which will ensure the most is gained from your time with us. All of our apprentices will work within a team with a supportive manager who will help you learn and develop as much as possible while you are working with Cafcass.

The apprenticeships will last a minimum of 12 months and can start at any time of the year. We will make sure that you get a chance to contact other apprentices within Cafcass where possible to provide a supportive network and additional learning opportunities.

We are working alongside our training provider, Babington, who will help our apprentices to gain a nationally recognised qualification. An assessor from Babington will meet you when you join Cafcass and will support you throughout your time with us. Babington will help you to complete assignments, choose modules and will assess you in your working environment.

Cafcass pays more than the national minimum wage to attract the best possible candidates.

    Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for people with an interest in business administration and a passion for learning. The ideal candidates will work well as part of a team and on their own, and will use their initiative to solve problems. You will need to demonstrate your commitment and awareness of your responsibilities to both yourself and Cafcass.

    Why choose Cafcass?

A career at Cafcass will provide you with invaluable experience of a complex, diverse and continually evolving national organisation. At Cafcass we are looking to develop the best people and provide them with the skills and knowledge to be successful in their chosen career path. By joining us at Cafcass you will be making a positive contribution to the lives of vulnerable children and young people by providing valuable business support. An apprenticeship at Cafcass will be challenging, as we are a fast paced organisation, but the skills you will learn will be worthwhile and can be carried with you for the rest of your career.

  • Becoming an apprentice

We advertise all our Cafcass apprenticeship vacancies exclusively through Babington and via the Find an Apprenticeship service. Please register with the ‘Find an Apprenticeship’ site to make sure you are ready to apply for any vacancy we have in the future. Once you have registered, and if the role is suitable for you, an advisor from Babington will be in touch to let you know about the next steps. From time to time we may work with other apprentice providers to recruit our apprentices.

For more general information about apprenticeships, please visit the National Apprenticeship Service website.

  • What will I learn?

We hope that working alongside experienced Cafcass staff will provide a solid understanding of business administration practices and of course a good understanding of what Cafcass does and how your role contributes to the work we do.

Cafcass is committed to providing you with the skills to successfully complete a nationally recognised qualification in Business Administration. We will do this in partnership with Babington, by ensuring that your training fits your personal requirements and satisfies national standards. We will also be there to help you through any difficulties you may encounter.

Our apprentices are instantly part of the Business Services Team and the work apprentices do positively contributes to the work of the practitioners. Our apprentices are working in a real role and will be given their own tasks and responsibilities to complete. You will be trained in these tasks through a combination of shadowing members of the team and formal training sessions. In the course of the apprenticeship, you will not only learn how to use the specialist Cafcass systems and procedures, but we will also teach you how to work in an office environment and will train you in general administrative tasks too.
