Apprenticeships with us

Get your future off to a flying start

We run an apprenticeship scheme and are looking for apprentices to join our friendly teams. If you are 16 or over and are thinking about an apprenticeship, then we could be just what you are looking for.

We would love to answer your questions. Please get in touch with us at the following email address: apprenticeships@cafcass.gov.uk

Apprenticeships at Cafcass

Apprenticeships are a form of work-based training that allow you to gain a qualification and learn practical on the job skills while earning a wage. They are a great first step in learning more about your chosen career path and learning practical skills that will stay with you throughout your career. Our apprentices work alongside our experienced staff to learn job-specific skills that will ensure the most is gained from your time with us. All our apprentices work within a team with a supportive manager who will help you learn and develop while you are working with us.

At present, Cafcass recruits for roles that require study and completion of the Business Administration Level 3 apprenticeship. This apprenticeships will last a minimum of 18 months and can start at any time of the year. We will make sure that you get a chance to contact other apprentices within our organisation, where possible, to provide a supportive network and additional learning opportunities.

We work alongside our training provider, Penshaw View Training, who help our apprentices to gain a nationally recognised qualification in Business Administration. An assessor from Penshaw will meet you shortly after you join us and will help guide you along your apprenticeship journey. Penshaw will work with us to ensure your apprenticeship is successful. Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to apply for other roles within the organisation.  As part of any future career with us, there will also be opportunities to apply for a range of other apprenticeships, from areas such as project management, learning and development, team leading and management, depending on your role and career path.

We pay more than the national minimum wage to attract the best possible candidates and because we value the skills an apprentice brings. We want to develop people and ensure they are paid fairly for what they do.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with an interest in business administration, a passion for learning and a desire to develop their career with us. The ideal candidate will work well as part of a team, on their own, and will use their initiative to solve problems. They will need to demonstrate their commitment and awareness of their responsibilities to both themselves and to us.

Choosing Cafcass

A career with us will provide you with invaluable experience of a complex, diverse and continually evolving national organisation. We are looking to develop the best people and provide them with the skills and knowledge to be successful in their chosen career path. By joining us, you will be making a positive contribution to the lives of vulnerable children and young people by providing valuable business support. An apprenticeship with us will be challenging, as we are a fast-paced organisation, but the skills you will learn will be worthwhile and can be carried with you for the rest of your career.

Becoming an apprentice

We advertise all our Cafcass apprenticeship vacancies through our Cafcass Careers site and via the Find an Apprenticeship service.

What you will learn

Working alongside our experienced staff will provide a solid understanding of business administration practices and a good understanding of what we do and how your role contributes to the work we do.

We are committed to providing you with the skills to successfully complete a nationally recognised qualification in Business Administration. We will do this in partnership with Penshaw by ensuring that your training satisfies national standards. We will also be there to help you through any difficulties you may encounter.

Our apprentices are instantly part of our Business Services Team and the work apprentices do positively contribute to the work of our social work practitioners. Our apprentices are working in a real role and will be given their own tasks and responsibilities to complete. You will be trained in these tasks through a combination of shadowing members of the team and formal training sessions. Over the course of the apprenticeship, you will not only learn how to use our specialist systems and procedures, but we will also teach you how to work in an office environment and will train you in general administrative tasks too.
